E. William Clymer, PEN-International Coordinator, conducted an overview of the issues related to the use of technology in the classroom. His lecture and workshop focused on four areas: Why use technology in the classroom?; Pedagogy, technology & instructional design; Best practices for technology in the classroom; and Technology used in NTID classrooms.
The attendees at this 1½-hour workshop included many newly hired, deaf faculty members at CSB. The discussion generated from the presentation included to many areas of interest to the faculty and staff at the college. Topics of most interest to the attendees included the Nine Events of Instruction, based upon the work of Robert Gagne and the potential for online learning systems, such as the RIT myCourses system.
At the conclusion of the workshop, the participants agreed they would like to continue and expand the training opportunities for CSB faculty in the area of instructional technology.
