PEN partners at Bauman Moscow State Technical University (BMSTU), Moscow, Russia, hosted a three-day forum for university and governmental leaders regarding the future of deaf education in Russia. After welcoming remarks by BMSTU Rector Federov, the program included addresses by the government officals from the Department of Education and the leadership of the other PEN-Russia partners.
A highlight of the forum were the student presentations from each of the seven educational programs represented at the meeting. Additionally, Russian students participated in videoconferences to the United States and Japan to exchange ideas with faculty and students who also attended the second PEN-International Summer Leadership Institute, a multinational week-long program for postsecondary deaf and hard of hearing students that took place 9-16 August, 2008, at Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex, England.
