Description:
This three-hour workshop will provide insights into classroom communication issues that often arise among deaf and hard of hearing college
students and their faculty. Participants will examine several variations in language, culture, communication preferences, personality, and secondary disabilities that can influence the teaching-learning
process. The values and challenges associated with this diversity will be considered. Specific strategies will be described that allow instructors and their students to manage classroom communication in
a way that promotes the achievement of course goals. Participants will be encouraged to discover and develop evaluation instruments and other resources that provide information about communication issues
as well as the communication characteristics of individual students.
