This week of ten, 3 hour workshops was specially designed to provide the visiting faculty of Bauman Moscow State Technical University (Moscow), Charles University (Prague), Tsukuba College of Technology (Japan) and College of St. Benilde (Manila) with training in the instruction of English as a Second Language for deaf students at the university level. The workshops were developed by Gerald P. Berent, Ph.D., and were presented by senior members of the NTID faculty, based upon their years of experience in deaf education and English as a Second Language instruction. The objectives and activities of all the workshops reflect the expressed needs of the teaching faculty who visited NTID from Bauman, Charles, TCT and CSB.
This WWW resource contains the complete schedule of activities and experiences, as well as a comprehensive listing of web-based resources that will be used by participants before, during, and after the workshops.
Five members of the Bauman State Technical College and five members of the Charles University were selected to receive training at NTID because of their excellence in teaching and their willingness to learn about and share with their colleagues at NTID approaches to teaching and learning. They are interested in learning about NTID's approaches to teaching (specifically English as a second language), classroom communication, course development and integrating technology into the classroom and instructional computer labs.
The NTID faculty who developed and will deliver the workshops come from NTID research, sign language, and English departments. As senior members of NTID's faculty and staff they are international leaders in their areas of specialty and have experience in teaching in diverse cultures.
The ten members of the Moscow and Prague delegations will be visiting NTID from July 12-21, 2002. Their complete workshop and visitation schedule is listed in full detail.
The Bauman College and Charles University faculty have a full week of workshops and learning activities. This schedule displays all workshop titles, presenters, locations, and schedule day and times. From the schedule grid, it is possible to access each workshop's description, materials used during the workshops, and suggested supplemental readings. Photos of each workshop will be included after completion of the workshops.
These seminars will provide the opportunity for the technical experts from both universities to meet with technical experts from NTID to discuss and share information related to networking, computer labs, smart classroom technology, and video conferencing. Discussions will be based on the expressed needs of the international partners and will be flexible so that questions can be fully answered.
