On 6 December 2007, Mr. Sid Barefoot, Associate Professor in NTID's Department of Communication Studies and Services, participated in a teleconference with six faculty and staff members who work with deaf and hard of hearing students at the College of St. Benilde, Manila, Philippines. Professor Barefoot presented a workshop on “Improving Classroom Communication”. During this videconference, Mr. Barefoot and the participants reviewed key elements of classroom communication management strategies and how they could be applied to the classroom. Elements that are universal to postsecondary classrooms and those unique to deaf and hard of hearing students were explored, and discussion of various classroom scenarios, particularly related to communication diversity among deaf and hard of hearing students, took place.
