Nabil Z. Nasr
The current environmental quality of our planet is threatened by a host of interrelated factors, with climate change, population growth, and industrial development among the most serious. Industrial development is particularly challenging because it is simultaneously the mechanism by which quality of life is maintained and by which the environment is damaged. With a background in sustainable production, remanufacturing, clean production, and sustainable product development, Dr. Nabil Nasr sets a visionary strategy for the Rochester Institute of Technology's Golisano Institute for Sustainability (GIS) where scientists, engineers and industry leaders come together to support the GIS mission to deliver innovative educational programs in sustainability and to conduct related world-class research. GIS houses several research centers, including the Center for Sustainable Production, Center for Sustainable Mobility, NanoPower Research Labs, Center for Remanufacturing and Resource Recovery (C3R) (founded by Dr. Nasr), a leading source of applied research and solutions in remanufacturing technologies, and the New York State Pollution Prevention Institute (NYSP2I), dedicated to enhancing understanding of pollution prevention techniques while also disseminating technologies to support these efforts. Dr. Nasr is also responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of the Center for Integrated Manufacturing Studies (CIMS) a technology development and transfer arm of GIS.
