Business club hosts ice skating fundraiser

RIT’s Women in Business club hopes to raise $500 to help send a Make-A-Wish child to Florida.

The club is offering ice skating from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 18 in Ritter Arena. Admission is $5 and includes skate rental, snacks and submarine sandwiches. All of the proceeds will go to the local Make-A-Wish chapter.

“We wanted to do an event involving philanthropy to give back to the community,” said Harianne Hewitt, club president and a second-year business management and hospitality tourism management major from New York City.
“We’re working to help a boy, Robert, who is 7 and has cystic fibrosis and wants to go see Mickey Mouse.”

Hewitt said the fundraiser will also provide experience for club members.

“We want to educate women in the business world, teach them how to deal with indifferences and how to make themselves stand out,” Hewitt said.

The event is sponsored by Saunders College of Business, the Center for Women and Gender and the Center for Leadership and Civic Engagement.

Hewitt said other RIT clubs and organizations will be at the event selling items with proceeds going to the charity.
