E-Dragster Race brings fresh spark to Imagine RIT
Festival organizers also renew call for poster designs
The opening to this year’s Imagine RIT: Innovation and Creativity Festival, scheduled for May 5, is sure to be a “drag.” But don’t let yourself sleep in or you’ll miss out.
For the first time, RIT’s spring festival is showcasing an electric-powered drag race as its kickoff event. The E-Dragster Race is open to individual competitors and teams, but each participant must be an RIT student, faculty member or staff member. Their task is to build a vehicle powered entirely by electricity that can complete a quarter-mile performance test in the fastest time.
Drivers will be instructed to “spark their engines” at 9 a.m. The racetrack will run through parking lots G and H. The results will be announced during the Imagine RIT opening ceremony, which takes place at 10 a.m. in Simone Circle. The winner may choose a grand prize of either $1,000 or a banjo from President Bill Destler’s personal collection.
Also, for the fifth consecutive year, RIT students are invited to submit original artistic works for the Imagine RIT Poster Design Contest. The selected design will be used to publicize the festival, and it will be prominently featured on more than 5,000 posters to be distributed at the event. The winning artist will receive a $500 gift card to Barnes & Noble.
Additional information and official rules for both the E-Dragster Challenge and the Poster Design Contest are available on the Imagine RIT contests Web page.
