Club volleyball finishes second in division

Rochester Institute of Technology’s women’s club volleyball team finished second in their division of the Northeast Women’s Volleyball Club League, their best finish in their four-year history.

“We really had hardworking players who were dedicated,” said Emily Moore, a fourth-year industrial design major from Sterling, Mass. She was team president and one of two founding members who played on the RIT club team this year. “We meshed pretty well. This definitely was our most experienced team ever.”

She said about 80 people tried out for the team of 12.

“We’re gaining recognition on campus and getting the right people trying out,” she said. Their previous best finish was sixth place last year, she said.

The league championship is planned next week, but Moore said her team won’t be participating because it falls during spring break.

The players practiced twice a week since October. They don’t have a coach but hope to have one in the future.

“We would love a coach,” Moore said. “We would really, really benefit from one.”
