GIS Selected to Provide Technical and Program Support to the For ClimateTech initiative
A comprehensive accelerator for attracting and growing climate technology in New York State
GIS was selected to provide a range of resources, technical expertise, and guidance to startup companies under a new initiative for attracting and growing climate technology in New York State called “For ClimateTech.” The initiative will help founders from around the world fast-track businesses and breakthrough technologies that reduce greenhouse gases, and will further strengthen the state as a hub for climate-related solutions. The initiative is administered by the innovation company, SecondMuse and the non-profit entrepreneurship support center, NextCorps.
For ClimateTech offers two inaugural programs: “Scale For ClimateTech” will help growth-stage innovators with product production; and “Venture For ClimateTech” will help innovators at earlier stages jumpstart their climate tech companies. Both programs bring together a set of resources and organizations that will mentor and guide new companies (or “cohort teams”) to market-ready pathways for testing, piloting, and selling climate-related solutions.
Specifically, GIS will partner with SecondMuse and NextCorps to provide: instructional delivery of “design for manufacturing” (or DfM) curriculum; individualized technical support to cohort participants; evaluations to increase client Manufacturing Readiness Levels (or “MRLs”); review of greenhouse gas estimations; and where applicable, additional direct technical project support tailored to the needs of each client’s product roadmap.
Scale For ClimateTech builds on a prior clean tech accelerator partnership between SecondMuse's M-Corps and NextCorps' Hardware ScaleUp (HWSU) programs. Together, this support has helped more than 30 climate tech manufacturing businesses raise a collective $28 million in funding and generate approximately $10 million in revenue over the last two years. These types of programs and assistance have proven to have a dramatic impact on company success, demonstrating the value of manufacturing readiness and access to global and domestic manufacturers in New York State.
