Steve Schultz, co-founder of Pictometry, is keynote speaker

RIT hosts the Fourth annual Graduate Research and Creativity Symposium on July 17th from 8:30am to 6pm

Building on its success of the past three years, the fourth annual Graduate Research and Creativity Symposium at Rochester Institute of Technology has expanded into a regional symposium for area colleges and universities. Approximately 100 RIT master’s and Ph.D. students along with peers from University of Rochester, Nazareth College, University at Buffalo and Syracuse University will present their research.

The July 17 symposium will feature morning and afternoon sessions in Louise M. Slaughter Hall on the RIT campus. The symposium runs from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is free and open to the public. The day’s agenda includes oral, poster and interactive presentations.

A broad variety of research topics will be covered including predicting disease transmission from human interactions observed through social media, why the price of gasoline really goes up and down, eye tracking, an informatics solution to improve the patient discharge process, assessing sustainable waste management policy metrics for end-of-life photovoltaics and a virtual chess game that is an adaptation of Yoko Ono’s White Chess.

Steve Schultz ’89 (computer science), co-founder of Pictometry and the company’s chief technology officer, will deliver the keynote address at 12:15 p.m. Schultz designed and developed the underlying technology for Pictometry’s patented systems, including the flight planning, field capture and end-user software Electronic Field Study.
