RG&E Recognizes RIT’s Sustainability Commitment Utilizing Data Center Cooling Technology
Company from Clean Energy Incubator developed technology; June 29 news conference
RG&E will present a commercial and industrial rebate program check to RIT at a news conference at 10:30 a.m. June 29 in Room 2210 of Louise M. Slaughter Hall on the RIT campus.
OptiCool Technologies, a successful start-up company that recently graduated from the Clean Energy Incubator at Rochester Institute of Technology, is helping the university save money and reduce energy. The incubator is sponsored by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.
OptiCool Technologies developed the cooling technology OptiCool Data Center Cooling Solution. It uses an oil-free, pumped refrigerant and a modular cooling-unit design that reduces energy usage by up to 95 percent and requires less floor space. The cooling systems were installed several months ago in RIT’s Center for Computational Relativity and Gravitation. In order to simulate the collision of black holes, the center has a supercomputer, which generates a massive amount of heat.
