Students raise money for tiger preservation

Tiger Awareness Week features pie throwing, film screening and a trip to the zoo

Rochester Institute of Technology’s Tigers for Tigers club plans a week full of fundraising and awareness activities beginning today to help prevent the extinction of tigers in the wild.

RIT is one of eight colleges with tiger mascots in the National Tigers for Tigers Coalition, which is matching up to $1,000 of donations raised at RIT.

“As a part of the National Tigers for Tigers Coalition initiative, Tigers For Tigers at RIT aims to spread awareness around the RIT community while raising funds for tigers around the world,” said Jonathon Price, a mechanical engineering major from Baldwinsville, N.Y. and member of RIT’s Tigers for Tigers club. “With fewer than 3,200 tigers left in the wild, our mascot needs our help.”
