Founded in 1930, The Print Club of Rochester has had a 94-year love affair with the fine art of printmaking. Originally established by 22 print-lovers, at the suggestion of the Memorial Art Gallery, the club has continued and grown into one of the longest continually running print clubs in the United States. Although it was established in Rochester, in recent years it has become a truly national club with members throughout the United States. Members range from artist-printmakers to collectors to print enthusiasts, all sharing the appreciation for the medium.
Annually, the Print Club of Rochester sponsors a “Members Exhibition” where all artist members are invited to participate. The exhibition features a wide range of printmaking techniques, from traditional processes to more experimental, multi-process methods. This exhibition showcases the strength of our members’ skills - their knowledge of the various printmaking processes, their diversity of imagery and their ability to stretch the boundaries of their art making.
This year, we are honored to have Miranda Metcalf as our Exhibition juror. She is currently serving as Director of IEA at Alfred University. Throughout her short career, Miranda has held an impressive array of positions, all art and print related – Curator of Contemporary Works on Paper, Davidson Gallery, Founder and Host of the well-known print related Podcast, “Hello, Print Friend”, Director of Print Santa Fe, Sales and Program Director, SAC Gallery, Bangkok, Thailand, to name only a few.
The Print Club of Rochester’s mission is to stimulate interest in and appreciation of old and contemporary prints; to promote education in respect to them, to encourage the ownership of good prints; and to assist in the production of quality prints. To this purpose, the Print Club offers educational demonstrations, workshops, artist talks/lectures, studio visits and a variety of exhibition opportunities.
