Bolla Highball
This cocktail glass draws inspiration from the functionality and elegance of simple, rational shapes, a hallmark of Lella and Massimo Vignelli’s work. The piece leverages the inherent beauty of glass, creating a visual experience that is both captivating and refined. The glass features a curved bottom on the inside and a simple, straight exterior, drawing inspiration from the geometric purity of the Classico goblets for Sasaki and the Multiusi glassware concepts by Casiglioni. This design ensures an aesthetically pleasing form.
The contrast from thick to thin glass mirrors the high contrast of Bodoni, one of Massimo Vignelli’s preferred typefaces, and generates exquisite distortions and internal reflections. These visual effects are enhanced by a vivid red ring at the bottom of the glass, a homage to the Vignellis’ geometric simplicity and the iconic New York City graphic identity they helped shape. The red ring serves as both a focal point and a subtle reminder of the Vignellis’ influence on modern design, providing a touch of color that beautifully interacts with the glass’s optical qualities.
