4 Point

4 point is a vessel design system built on the 4 point grid. The smallest vessel fits in an 8cm x 8cm grid, and scales up by 4cm with each larger cup. The ratio in which the vessels scale is similar to how many typographers like the Vignelli’s would often scale type. Bringing this 2D concept into a 3D space creates a unique theme for the project, the typographer’s cup. Functionally, 4 point borrows from the idea of stack-ability that the Vignelli’s used in many of their home goods. When creating stacking objects, they ensured they worked together not just functionally but visually. 4 point attempts to do the same through its use of transparency and primary colors, creating unique visuals when stacked in different orders.
