The experience of a lamp is just as much about the color, quality, and intensity of the light it creates as it is about physical form. Each piece of the three-part system was designed based on simple Euclidean geometry and basic scientific principles with respect to both physical function and quality of light. The white portion of the shade can be used on its own, an archetypal form with a clean white glow. One or both of the colored lenses can be nested inside of the white shade to create a variety of different moods. The blue component blocks all but the shortest wavelengths of light passing through it, offering a sense of wakefulness. Resting on a table in the evening, the form of the blue piece allows it to be used as a phone stand or place to store small personal items. Conversely, the warm red component allows only the longest wavelengths of light to pass through, promoting a restful atmosphere. By day, the red piece can be taken off and used as a vase or glass. Placing both colored lenses in the lamp simultaneously creates a glow that is meant to conjure memories of sunsets or Christmas lights under the snow. In total, the lamp creates opportunities for playful physical interaction with a typically passive object, and offers the user a variety of ways to build mindful rituals into their lives.
