The Albatross

Based on the prompt, I wanted to create something with a specific purpose that solved a problem. My water pitcher and its cup are designed to be used as a bedside water jug. The shape is meant to be intuitive and ergonomic so that even in darkness, you can hold it with certainty. I have never worked with glass as a medium, so this was all a brand-new experience for me. On paper, everything looked simple and straightforward, but as soon as we took it up to the Corning Museum of Glass, things started to come into perspective. The glowing glass held so many possibilities; in those initial moments, it was spectacular to see what it could become. Catherine, the gaffer I was working with, was extremely visionary. Not only was she able to perceive my sketch with its form, but she also kept experimenting with different ways of doing the same thing to create the jug that exists now.
