RIT OTIEC and Syracuse Builders Exchange Celebrate Joint Success

In 2023, Lisa Brownson was board president of the Syracuse Builders Exchange (SBE) and also served on its education committee. With several large construction projects slated to begin in the area, she sought the opportunity to expand educational benefits for SBE members, and helped to develop a partnership with the RIT OSHA Training Institute Education Center (RIT OTIEC) to deliver safety training at the SBE facility near Carrier Circle in Syracuse, NY.

“Over the past year, we delivered 7 classes for 80 learners at SBE covering a range of topics including OSH standards for construction, permit required confined space entry, lockout/tagout, excavation, trenching and soil mechanics, and the update course for construction outreach trainers,” said Kitren VanStrander, director at RIT OTIEC.

After the most recent class, Brownson remarked, “It was very interactive and informative and got great reviews. We want to thank RIT for helping us expand training opportunities for the construction industry in 16 counties in central New York.”

SBE executive director Earl Hall added, “On behalf of our board of directors, my staff, and most importantly the central New York construction industry, I would like to thank RIT for the terrific partnership. Delivering RIT’s unique content and curriculum to regional construction industry employers and their key employees has been well received. As New York State’s largest construction industry Association, serving over 950 firms, I would say the partnership has been a huge success.”
