Kimberlie Barrett '81 / CEO/Broker/Owner, Magellan®, Inc.
Kim started in the real estate business in 1981, after graduating with a degree in business and major in marketing from Rochester Institute of Technology, and took 'Rookie of the Year' for the largest organization in Rochester at a time when interest rates peaked at 19 ¾%. She went on to open her first company in 1984 and Magellan®, Inc. in 1994. Currently she is CEO, President and Broker/Owner of the company.
Magellan®, Inc. Real Estate and Relocation is a boutique agency that focuses, first and foremost, on the quality of its agents, not the quantity. Her average agent has 15 years of experience. Kim's model is unique and she expects to expand it nationwide in 2018.
With over 36 years of experience and multiple designations including the CRB, CBR, GRI, CIPS, TRC and MINC, Kim has been called the 'Renaissance girl of new construction' in which she specialized for 26 years. Today, Kim specializes in luxury and international real estate but her strength is pure 'marketing'; identifying the right audience for each piece of property and tailoring a unique marketing plan and the strategies and tactics, necessary, to proactively reach the right buyer and garner the most equity for sellers. When representing buyers, the goal is to assist them in obtaining the most value for their dollar.
Kim leads a talented team of 15 agents and 4 staff members in the Brighton office on Monroe Avenue. In 2011 she was honored as 'Entrepreneur of the Year' by the Women's Council of REALTORS® and in 2012 she was a finalist for the prestigious 'Athena Award' given annually by the Women's Council of Rochester, which is associated with the Rochester Business Alliance.
In 2002, Kim made the executive decision to donate 1% of the company's gross commission dollars to community service projects locally. She also volunteers her time by sitting on several non-profit Boards and Committees to assist them with their marketing and membership initiatives. Kim has four children and four grandchildren, who are local, and she has taught them all: 'When we share, there is always more. When we don't share, there is no more.'
She credits her successes in this order: Faith, hard work and a positive attitude.
