RIT showcases circular entrepreneurship at STEMCON in Indonesia and secures over ten Indonesian partner universities
Dr. Clyde Eirikur Hull and Mihloti Williams of the Saunders College of Business’s Competitive Sustainability Center were invited to present on circular economy at the Arizona State University (ASU) USAID Higher Education Partnership Initiative (HEPI) project’s Science-Technology-Engineering-Mathematics Conference in Indonesia (STEMCON) in November 2023.
Conference attendees included Indonesian university decision-makers and professors, Indonesian industries, Indonesian government officials, and selected NGOs. The conference focused on helping Indonesian universities strengthen their programs through partnerships with selected universities, including RIT.
Hull and Williams presented the RIT’s Circular Entrepreneurship Program, including a course on circular entrepreneurship that RIT is sharing with partner universities across the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region through a generous grant from the US Department of State. They also presented on female empowerment in STEM by highlighting the current work being done in the ASEAN region and success stories from RIT’s Jordan project, also funded by the U.S. Department of State, which helped female entrepreneurs start circular businesses.
The RIT team was joined by the Indonesian local Manager for Jones & Vining, run by RIT Distinguished Alum Jim Salzano, to showcase a successful business committed to using circular economy principles and transforming a business to circularity.
Through the partnership with the ASU USAID HEPI project, RIT’s circular economy project secured partnership with over ten universities in Indonesia. Due to a growing interest in circular entrepreneurship in Indonesia, RIT is committed to continuing building capacity and expanding opportunities to train professors/mentors/lectures allowing them to equip students with skills and knowledge to be able to identify and seize untapped circular opportunities. The relationship developed with Indonesian universities will allow RIT to contribute to or aid the progress toward achieving ASEAN’s sustainable development goals.
