Student Research at Saunders: The Inaugural SRI Symposium

On October 17, 2024, Saunders College hosted its first Student Research Initiative (SRI) Symposium, where undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. students showcased their research through e-posters, highlighting diverse and impactful research topics.
The SRI program, launched last spring, gives students a chance to gain hands-on research experience while collaborating with faculty. This is especially valuable for students to explore research opportunities.

Here are some of the impressive research projects that were showcased during this semester’s symposium:

  • Ryan Haver: Explored the Effects of Corporate Transparency and Risks on Capital Markets under the guidance of Prof. Hao Zhang.
  • Shikha Shah: Presented research on Automating the Detection of Vulnerable Consumers During a Hurricane with Prof. Vic Perotti.
  • Ethan Feldman: Introduced an Explainable AI Framework to Identify Deceptive Reviewers on E-Commerce Platforms with evidence from Amazon, guided by Prof. Ali Tosyali.
  • Negin Haghi: Shared findings on The Consequence of Options Trading on Mandatory Disclosures: Evidence from 10-K Filings, mentored by Prof. Hao Zhang.
  • Cindy Okoh: Investigated the connection between Tone Divergence and Firm Performance, focusing on IPOs, with the support of Prof. Rong Yang.
  • Biju Varghese: Discussed The Impact of Gamification on Organizational Cybersecurity Training Efficacy with Profs. Raj Murthy and Sean Hansen.

Looking Forward
With plans for the SRI program to continue each semester, we’re excited to see more students get involved in research. The symposium was a wonderful showcase of students' hard work and the innovative research being conducted at Saunders to help build a strong foundation for research collaboration. We look forward to the continued success of the SRI program in the coming semesters, and we can't wait to see what new research will emerge!

Stay tuned for more updates on events like this.
