Engineering Success: How an Executive MBA Elevated Leadership
"Work gets the most of me, but it doesn’t get the best of me." Starting as an engineer and co-op supervisor at Advanced Automation Technologies, Kailee Polimeni ‘24, found this phrase rang true through constant visibility across all shifts on the production floor. But over time, the meaning of "best" evolved, especially when she stepped into the Value Stream Manager role during the uncertainty of COVID-19 was different - becoming a stabilizing force and an advocate for growth.

Starting as an engineer and co-op supervisor at Advanced Automation Technologies, Kailee Polimeni ‘24, found this phrase rang true through constant visibility across all shifts on the production floor. But over time, the meaning of "best" evolved, especially when she stepped into the Value Stream Manager role during the uncertainty of COVID-19 was different - becoming a stabilizing force and an advocate for growth.
The responsibility was no longer just about mentoring—it was about rebuilding. To take that impact further, Kailee turned to the executive MBA program to provide that catalyst. The accelerated format, in-person components, business simulation, international seminar and capstone consulting project delivered a well-rounded experience expanding strategic thinking, business acumen and elevated leadership. Kailee knew the 16 month journey would be a challenge, requiring commitment, trust and giving your best.
The investment paid off, leading to a promotion to Director of Operations before completing the executive MBA, and receiving the Donna Scheid Leadership Award. The honor is named for a belated and beloved leader of the executive business programs, and is awarded by a class to one executive student that best, “exemplifies the values of the RIT Executive MBA program through sustained practice of intellectual honesty, authentic communication, dedication to the personal and professional growth of colleagues, willingness to share knowledge in an open and energized way, central role in fostering a safe learning environment, and outstanding contribution to a spirit of community.”
Kailee’s journey from engineer to executive leader exemplifies how resilience, continuous learning and a growth mindset leads to personal and professional transformation.
