2023 Exhibitions

Galanin
October 6, 2023 – February 18, 2024

Nicholas Galanin's work is unapologetically critical of how western culture tokenizes indigenous objects and people. Made from a found totem pole intended for tourists, this installation deconstructs it in an attempt to reclaim lost meaning and context.

The installation is on view at City Art Space October 6, 2023 - February 18, 2024.

Smug Dream image by Daniel Witkowski
March 3, 2023 – March 26, 2023

"A child of this city, Daniel Witkowski drew a line around Center City and said, 'Okay, here's the place, now let's see what is here.' This is a love letter to Rochester, and not the sprawling lawns of East Ave or the vistas from Cobb's Hill or the beach scenes of Charlotte. This is a love letter sent from the very heart of the city."

Image from Melissa Warp's THIS LAND
March 3, 2023 – March 26, 2023

Near my upstate New York home and in my travels, I observe how landscapes have been transformed over time – particularly those on the fringes of cities. Most notably, I see small farms that sit on land that has now become too expensive for one family to own. In turn these farms are often swallowed up by developments or mono-crop agriculture. Our food continues to come to our tables from further away than it once did while we lose any lasting connections to its source. This Land illuminates the connections between various aspects of this common story.
