Dr. Cecilia (Cissi) Alm's research interests focus on human-sensing AI and ML for text, speech, ASL, and multimodal human dialogue and other interactions, including interactive and continuous resource-efficient machine learning. She is committed to enabling student research training experiences. Cissi is the joint program director for the MS in Artificial Intelligence, an associate director of the Center for Human-aware AI, and PI and director for NSF award NRT-AI: AWARE-AI: AWAREness for Sensing Humans Responsibly with AI, PI for the NSF-funded IRES AI-PROWIL program, and the PI at RIT for a collaborative NSF EAGER award. She previously was PI for the NSF-funded REU Site: Computational Sensing for Human-centered AI, REU Site: Computational Sensing, and subaward PI for NIH-funded Automated Analysis of Pragmatic Development in ASD. Besides her Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign centered on computational linguistics, she also holds a Certificate of Advanced Study in Language and Speech Processing and a Certificate of Graduate Specialization in Computational Science and Engineering from UIUC.
