Two RIT students earn Google Ph.D. Fellowships for AI computing research
Two RIT students have won Google Ph.D. Fellowships for their work as some of the most promising young academics in the world. Emily Kuang and Allahsera Auguste Tapo—both in the computing and information sciences Ph.D. program—will receive full tuition, a stipend, and Google research mentorship as part of their fellowships for up to three years.

As part of RIT’s ongoing commitment to academic and cultural exchanges, several cohorts of international students, including those from Ireland, Germany, and Indonesia, visited campus this fall. The visits were spearheaded, in part, by RIT Global, which has developed partnerships with nearly 100 countries.

RIT’s Women in Computing organization is partnering with Wegmans to support diversity and inclusion in the computing industry. Wegmans is committing $200,000 throughout the next five years to the WiC group to support its work in advancing all women and gender minorities in computing.

RIT students took on some of the most prestigious universities across the northeast U.S. and Canada in the 2023 International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) Northeast North America Regional event.

CS@RIT hosts regional programming competition
CS@RIT recently hosted regional competitors of the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC), with 84 registered teams from 19 universities competing. The top four universities will advance to the North America Championship, from which the top teams will advance to the World Finals. Two RIT teams performed well, placing 13th and 17th overall. The contest involves teams of up to three students solving problems within five hours, using a single computer.

Forbes has named RIT alumnus Colin McDonald among the top young entrepreneurs helping to make tomorrow a brighter day. McDonald ’22 (computer science) and his software development agency, Moonsworth, were named on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list for 2023 in the Games category.

RIT faculty prepare to teach large classes in SHED using scaled-up classroom
A room in Slaughter Hall seats 150 students and is meant to simulate the learning spaces in the Student Hall for Exploration and Development (SHED) that will hold classes next fall. The Slaughter classroom, dubbed the “betaSHED,” combines three rooms to give professors and students a preview of the large-scale learning environment.
