RIT’s Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences is forming a new School of Information to recognize the changing roles of information professionals. The school aims to bridge the digital divide and make computing solutions available, accessible, usable and suitable to all.

Dozens of students and recent alumni were recognized for their design excellence in the global competition. 

Cybercrime is costing the world trillions of dollars, and analysts say that there aren’t enough qualified professionals to prevent those attacks. To address this problem, RIT is creating the Global Cybersecurity Institute (GCI), aimed at meeting the demand for computing security and artificial intelligence professionals, while developing future technologies, protocols and human understanding needed to address the global cybersecurity crisis.

Meet Alice Jo Maisel Lichtman ’79 MS (computer science), the Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences 2019 Distinguished Alumna.

The two-week trip through the German cities of Paderborn and Frankfurt was the culmination of a spring semester course that introduced students to game design and development in Germany. For the study abroad program, students participated in an extended game jam with German students, sat in on a class about artificial intelligence in the games industry and toured three game studios.

The Original Mobile Games are digital recreations of handheld dexterity-based games and puzzles from the last 149 years. The project was developed collaboratively by RIT, The Strong museum and Second Avenue Learning.

A therapeutic game called Space Adventure designed by an RIT class officially launched this month on the Rochester Society for the Protection and Care of Children (SPCC) website. The SPCC specializes in supporting families whose lives have been impacted by trauma.

RIT computing professor Linwei Wang, whose research is advancing non-invasive personalized healthcare for heart diseases, is receiving the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, the highest honor bestowed by the U.S. government on outstanding scientists and engineers who are beginning their independent research careers and show exceptional promise for leadership in science and technology.

Larwan Berke, a computing and information sciences Ph.D. student at RIT, was one of only 11 outstanding doctoral students selected to receive the 2019 Microsoft Research Dissertation Grant.

A team RIT computing professors are finalists in the National Science Foundation 2026 Idea Machine competition for their proposal on Integrated Human-Machine Intelligence, beating out more than 800 other ideas.

A team of RIT students from different computing disciplines came together last semester to place third in the 2019 MITRE Collegiate eCTF (embedded capture-the-flag) cybersecurity competition.

The National Science Foundation received more than 800 idea submissions for the NSF 2026 Idea Machine competition. Entries were judged and 33 are still in the running for the grand prize, including a submission from an RIT team on Integrated Human Machine Intelligence.
