Optical Methods in Applied Fluid Flows
My laboratory has used optical methods, including Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) and Laser Induced Fluorescence (LIF) to study fluid flow, mixing, and particle motion in medical devices or otherĀ physiologic flows. As a recent example, in collaboration with Risa Robinson (RIT) and Bora Sul (Ft. Detrick) we are measuring the flow field within a 4 generation lung model in order to provide a data set that may be used to validate numerical models. Other collaboration have included Ortho Clinical Diagnostics, a J&J company that investigated mixing wells in clinical blood analyzers as well as novel cell separation devices that are still in early development.
