- Let Freedom Ring, commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
On Monday, January 21, 2019, Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) will commemorate the legacy and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. during the second annual Let Freedom Ring event. Everyone in the RIT community is invited to join us and the program runs from 10:30-11:30 a.m. in Ingle Auditorium, Student Alumni Union. If you’re coming to the event, let us know by registering here.
Let Freedom Ring was established through the leadership and commitment of RIT President Munson in 2018, a couple short months after his inaugural ceremonies. Dr. Howard Ward, associate vice president of Student Auxiliary Services at RIT will be the master of ceremonies.
RIT is pleased to welcome back Greg Pollock, ’12, currently vice president of Human Resources and Accessibility officer at PNC Financial Services, headquartered in Pittsburg, PA. Pollock has been recognized by many in the industry as a staunch advocate for people with disabilities and addressing the needs to make workplaces accessible. As a student majoring in Professional Technical Communications in the School of Communiations at RIT, Mr. Pollock served two-terms as President of RIT’s Student Government (2010-2012), a rare occurrence for any, and the only Deaf RIT Student Government President to serve two terms.
“Strength to Love,” a book written by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and originally published in 1963 serves as an inspiration for this year’s program.
In addition, during the formal program, there will be a musical performance by The RIT String Quartet, a newly choreographed dance performance by Thomas Warfield, Director of Dance at RIT/NTID and members of the RIT/NTID Dance Company. Offering an opportunity to reflect on how we, as a community, must have an inner strength and awareness that “We Shall Overcome” the trials and tragedies faced in our nation.
After the program, in the Fireside Lounge, guests will be invited to a reception featuring a delicious feast of diverse foods and treats from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
This event is co-sponsored by the Division of Finance & Administration and the Division of Diversity & Inclusion.
