- It’s almost time for Let Freedom Ring and Expressions of King’s Legacy
RIT’s Division of Diversity and Inclusion is hosting two major events this month to honor the life of one of the most prominent civil rights leaders of our time. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
The RIT community is invited to join us for Let Freedom Ring on Monday, January 15th. The keynote speaker is RIT alum, Krystle Ellis ’09, ’15. She is the owner of Ellis K Consulting, and the Executive Director of the Women’s Foundation of Genesee Valley. She is a leader in policy remapping, professional development, conflict mediation and operational support.
Let Freedom Ring runs from 10:30 am to 11:30 am in Ingle Auditorium. Following the program, be sure to stop by Fireside Lounge for some delicious food. There will also be a screening of the film, Rustin, based on the life of Bayard Rustin, an openly gay and Black human rights activist. Rustin is the architect of the 1963 March on Washington where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous “I Have a Dream Speech.” The screening will take place in MOSAIC (2nd floor of SAU) from 12pm-2pm. Please note there is seating for about 40 people in that space.

We will honor Dr. King again on Tuesday January 30th at the 42nd Annual Expressions of King’s Legacy program, featuring a conversation with Dr. Ibram X. Kendi, author of the New York Times bestseller “How to Be an Antiracist.” This event is from noon to 2 p.m. in Gordon Field House. Kendi’s focus is on the reality of racism in America. He is the Andrew W. Mellon Professor in the Humanities at Boston University, and the founding director of the BU Center for Antiracist Research. In 2020, Time magazine named Dr. Kendi one of the 100 most influential people in the world. For more information on Dr. Ibram X. Kendi, please visit www.prhspeakers.com.
Due to overwhelming interest, new registrations are open only to RIT employees and students.
