- A new strategic direction for AALANA Faculty Staff Association
As a result of engaging discussions, renewed leadership and thoughtful feedback I received from the AALANA Faculty Staff Association (AFSA) members, I’ve decided to move the association in a new direction. The AFSA will continue to connect AALANA faculty and staff in meaningful ways by building a sense of community where respect, inclusion and diversity are the cornerstone of the AFSA mission. However, I believe it’s time to move forward by offering dedicated members of the AFSA, professional training and development modules to strengthen their personal and potential leadership skills.
As an AALANA executive committee, we’ve taken pride in listening and taking the necessary action steps to make it a reality. We want our members to be fully prepared for leadership positions at RIT. As we move into this new direction, we are being responsive to what members want to attain thus helping them to be proactive and prepared while creating opportunities to build on their leadership skills.
Our first training session is entitled “The Bennie Jar: I Got Mine and How You Can Get Yours,” held on Tuesday, March 27th from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. in the Campus Center, Reading Room (2550). This session will include professional and career development tips, resume development, understanding your professional value, etc. Based on feedback and outcomes, we’ll also create another training development session on April 24th.
In the near future, we’d also like to explore customized modules for women, learning about opportunities in leadership, obstacles faced in the workplace and offering tools for career advancement. If you would like to become involved with AFSA or join the listserv, feel free to reach out to our AFSA executive committee members, like:
We are looking forward to developing and training our AALANA staff and faculty members, so they can lead by example. We are opening the doors of opportunity for the next generation of leaders. We are creating an expectation where training, professional development and skill building, will lead to positive outcomes for everyone in our community.
