- Stay Tuned: Catching Up With RIT’s Miles Hood
Miles Hood ’20 (communication) is excited about the work he is doing at Syracuse University. He is a graduate student in broadcast and digital journalism at The S.I Newhouse School of Public Communications. He’s busy getting interviews and writing stories for his broadcast news classes, spending time at radio stations WAER and WJPZ (Z89) where he can work on his writing and DJ skills and fine tune his “on-air” voice. Hood is continuing what he started here as a commentator with WITR 89.7, covering the RIT women’s ice hockey team. His focus is now on the women’s team at S-U.
Hood is an RIT Destler/Johnson Rochester City Scholar and he got a lot of support and guidance from the Multicultural Center for Academic Success (MCAS). He says all of the experiences, from working on RIT SportsZone Live and as a freelance writer for Reporter Magazine to serving as a Student Ambassador, even studying abroad, prepared him to take the next step to graduate school.
“RIT allowed me to grow and explore my strengths, weaknesses and desires. I bounced through a few majors in my first year at RIT and through all of those adventures I was able to find something I loved. RIT allowed me to study abroad, become an RA, helping out new students and giving back to my community. All of this allowed me to become this well-rounded individual.”
Hood admits there were a few twists and turns and he embraces it all.
“When I look back on my undergrad career, I didn’t see the path that was ahead of me at all times, but when I got to the end I had enough to go forward and for that I’m thankful. “
Hood expects to graduate from Syracuse this spring. What’s next? He says stay tuned.
He says, “I’d like to work at either a TV station as a reporter or MMJ, hopefully making my way to a news anchor position soon. I’d also like to work at iHeartRadio as a host or DJ.”
