RIT students in the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) are making their voices heard. They’re completing a letter-writing campaign to New York Governor Kathy Hochul, their home district’s state senator and assemblyperson urging them to increase HEOP funding by 10% and advocating for the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) and Bundy aid. So far 66 RIT HEOP students have sent letters to their elected NYS lawmakers. Two of the students, Tahaara Gazali, a second-year Biomedical Science student and El-Hassn Salem, a second-year Applied Arts and Sciences student, traveled to Albany last month with Chris Harris, director, Community Relations, RIT’s office of Government and Community Relations. They had a chance to meet one-on-one with lawmakers to share personal stories of what HEOP means to them.
They definitely made the grade. Congratulations to all of the Division of Diversity and Inclusion students who have attained Dean’s List in the spring 2022 and fall 2022. We are excited to share the honors go to a total of 856 students, representing division programs.
A special recognition ceremony and reception was held February 28th in Fireside Lounge with Deans and college representatives invited. Dean’s List consists of students who have received a GPA greater than or equal to 3.40 with no grades of incomplete, D or F. Students must also be registered and complete at least 12 credit hours per semester.
