- She Took Her Daughter’s Advice
Marie Green is already looking ahead to the next Cultural Humility workshop presented by Diversity Education in the Division of Diversity and Inclusion. Green is one of 19 employees across campus who just completed six workshops during the past year that focused on self-examination and encouraged participants to think about their own values, beliefs and biases. Green works in the Deans Office in the Institute of Health Sciences and Technology. She says she got a nudge to take part by a family member.
“I was encouraged to participate by my daughter,” she said. “Additionally, I wanted to become more informed and educated, and the series required a deeper commitment towards understanding. I care about these issues, and I want to do better and be better.”
Green says she learned many things on many topics. One area focused on "Environmental Injustice"; what it is, the causes and solutions to address it. She encourages others to take part.
“I strongly encourage everyone to consider making time, if not for the entire series, for even one or two classes. There are many demands on our time, however, this is an investment that not only benefits you personally, but also the greater good,” she said.
