It’s Time to Register for Expressions of King’s Legacy
Join us on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, for Expressions of King’s Legacy as we honor the legacy of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
This year’s keynote speaker is Deborah Archer, the president of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). The program will be held in the Gordon Field House and Activities Center from 12:00 - 2:00 PM.
Archer is a civil rights lawyer, scholar, and educator. She is the daughter of Jamaican immigrants and recalls how she first experienced racism, classism, and anti-immigrant sentiment at the age of nine. Her family moved to a Connecticut suburb and found “KKK” spray-painted on their home and on their car. She says her parents taught her then, how to fight back. That is when her commitment to civil rights and civil liberties was born.
Today she serves as the eighth president of the organization and its first person of color in that position. She is a leading advocate of civil rights and civil liberties. She is Professor of Clinical Law at the New York University School of Law, and Faculty Director of the Law School’s Center on Race, Inequality, and the Law. As an attorney with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and the ACLU, she litigated in the areas of voting rights, employment discrimination and school desegregation.
Archer will take questions from the audience, but you must submit the questions in advance. You can do that when you register here for Expressions of King’s Legacy.
