Janet Lomax, joins the DDI Family as Journalist in Residence on the Marketing & Communications Team beginning October 14, 2019. Janet is no stranger to RIT, as she just completed serving as the 2018-2019 RIT Minett Professor. She is an award winning journalist with 40 years of experience. For more than three decades she served as News Anchor at News 10NBC in Rochester, NY before retiring in December 2016.
She got her start shortly after her college graduation at WAVE TV3 in her hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. Janet was hired as a reporter/photographer. She was quickly given additional duties as host/producer of Urban Insight, a weekly public affairs program. Janet worked for 4 and ½ years at WAVE-TV3 before a job offer brought her to News 10NBC.
Over the next 36 years, Janet covered a variety of stories from national political conventions and the NYC visit by Pope John Paul II to a number of one-on-one interviews with prominent newsmakers including Former First Lady Michelle Obama at the White House in Washington D.C.
She has earned numerous honors for excellence in journalism, including a Regional Edward R Murrow Award, a New York State Associated Press Award and has been inducted into the New York State Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame.
Janet believes “to whom much is given, much is expected” and is a firm believer in giving back to her community. She has worked with several organizations over the years including The Links, Incorporated, the Rochester Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc (a past president), Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the National Association of Black Journalists and RABJ, the local affiliate.
Ivanna (Ivy) D. Colon, was selected to participate in the Leadership Rochester cohort of 2020. Our cohort consists of 43 members from all over the Rochester area. Some of the institutions represented are the City of Rochester, Hillside, ESL and 13WHAM news to name a few. Leadership Rochester is a signature program dedicated to creating and developing a legacy of leaders who will grow and serve the Greater Rochester region. The organization identifies established and emerging leaders who represent the greater Rochester community and educates them in community issues with the goal of using this in-depth knowledge to improve the Greater Rochester region.
Dr. Taj Smith, (Director of Diversity Education) and Amberlee Jones (Associate Interpreter) will be graduating from the United Way's African American Leadership Development program on October 22.
Devon Watters and Sandy Whitmore will be presenting at the Public Relations Society of America International Conference October 20-22 to share How to Build a Diversity and Inclusion Brand in San Diego, California.
