Congratulations are in order for some outstanding DDI students! Four RIT McNair Scholars presented their research at the UCLA McNair Research Conference in Los Angeles over the summer. They are Nhyira Asante, a fourth- year biomedical science major, Ethan Feldman, a fourth- year management information technology major, Tahaara Gazali, a third-year biomedical sciences major and Gabriela Gonzalez who is a third-year chemistry major. The McNair Scholars Program provided funding for their trip.
In addition, Ethan Feldman also traveled to a National McNair Conference last month at the University of Maryland- Baltimore County. During a selective research symposium, Feldman shared his results with the Department of Education and The National Science Foundation. His research was advised by Dr. Ali Tosyali, assistant professor in the Department of MIS, Marketing, and Analytics. The research focuses on breakthrough deep learning methods to detect fraud in e-commerce platforms. This month McNair Scholar Crystal Lee, a fourth-year bioinformatics and computational biology major will attend Brown University’s Graduate School Preview Day, a highly competitive program. There will be opportunities to interact with faculty, staff, and current graduate students.
Way to go to Joseph Vazquez Mercado, a member of the 2021-2022 Men of Color, Honor and Ambition (MOCHA) Cohort 8. He published his first research paper. It is in the September issue of American Chemical Society. The fourth-year mechanical engineering major worked with six other students on the paper entitled “Mechanical Investigations of Composite Cathode Degradation in All-Solid-State Batteries.”
