The other signature event mixes music with the message in honoring Dr. King. The 42nd Annual Expressions of King’s Legacy program will feature a conversation with Dr. Ibram X. Kendi, author of the New York Times bestseller “How to Be an Antiracist.” This event is Tuesday, January 30th from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in Gordon Field House. Kendi’s focus is on the reality of racism in America. He is the Andrew W. Mellon Professor in the Humanities at Boston University, and the founding director of the BU Center for Antiracist Research. He is a contributing writer at The Atlantic and a CBS News racial justice contributor.
In addition to “How to Be an Antiracist”, the author has also produced other #1 New York Times bestsellers including Antiracist Baby, and Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You, co-authored by Jason Reynolds. In 2020, Time magazine named Dr. Kendi one of the 100 most influential people in the world. Expressions of King’s Legacy will include musical performances by famed Rochester-based musician and Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra trumpeter Herb Smith and the Freedom Trio.
