Research Interests

Dr. Zheng's research areas are bio-fluid mechanics and computational fluid dynamics (CFD), with emphasis on the integrative and organismal systems that involve flow-structure-acoustics interactions (FSAI). His research group has been focusing on developing a versatile high-fidelity multiphysics simulation and optimization platform for a broad range of biological and medical applications. The research goal is to develop and utilize advanced computer modeling techniques to improve the understanding of biophysics of various flow-related biological/physiological functions in human and animal. The knowledge can inspire innovative engineering designs and improve the diagnostic and treatment of related diseases. The current applications include the human speech production, bio-locomotion (swimming and flying), bio-inspired flow sensing, and cardiovascular health.

MECE-355
3 Credits
A second course in fluid mechanics, integrating concepts of heat and mass transfer. Use of the differential form of the fundamental equations of the conservation of mass, momentum and energy is derived and used throughout. Topics include potential flow, viscous internal plane and pipe flows, external velocity and thermal boundary layers, and the formulations of conductive and convective transport of heat flows.
MECE-725
3 Credits
This graduate-level course offers a comprehensive introduction to numerical methods applied to partial differential equations (PDEs) in the context of fluid dynamics. Students will also delve into various numerical techniques tailored for simulating viscous fluid flows. Student will gain the necessary knowledge to select the most appropriate numerical schemes for different flow configurations. By the end of the course, students will possess the expertise required to tackle complex fluid dynamics problems using advanced computational methods.
