Industrial and Systems Engineering Appoints New Department Head
Scott Grasman brings background in alternative energy and sustainability to RIT
The Kate Gleason College of Engineering has named Scott Grasman as the head of its industrial and systems engineering department. He comes to RIT after 10 years at Missouri University of Science and Technology in its engineering management and systems engineering department.
Grasman brings a background in the development of quantitative and qualitative models and applying these concepts in the areas of manufacturing, logistics, and energy/sustainability policy.
“Industrial engineering provides a bridge between technology and business,” he says. “The discipline is critical to society. Industrial engineers look for trends, things that will move the economy, improve people’s quality of life.”
Grasman joins an industrial and systems engineering department that has consistently received accolades for its strong K-12 outreach, as well as its curriculum design integrating sustainability and lean concepts among other experiential learning objectives for its students. He replaces Jacqueline Mozrall as department head, who currently serves as associate dean of the engineering college.
Originally from Michigan, Grasman earned his undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees from the University of Michigan. He has performed research and consulting work with various automobile companies, Intel Corp., Boeing Corp., and SAP, as well as various government agencies. He and his wife, Kellie, make their home in Honeoye Falls with sons, Henry, 10, and twins, Davis and Grant, 8.
“I’m excited to join a vibrant community of faculty-scholars, students, and staff,” he adds. “I look forward to contributing to the continued success of industrial and systems engineering and RIT.”
