NetApp leader discusses cloud technologies

Engineering alumnus and entrepreneur Greg Germain participates in Dean’s Speaker Series

Greg Germain

He has his head in the cloud, and he is encouraging engineering students to work there, too.

RIT engineering alumnus Greg Germain will discuss how today’s engineers must be able to manage delivery and storage solutions associated with cloud technologies as part of the Kate Gleason College of Engineering Dean’s Alumni Series. His presentation, “Top Megatrends of Today: Launching Your Career into the Cloud Age,” takes place at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, in the Xerox Auditorium located in RIT’s Kate Gleason College of Engineering.

Germain ’84 is vice president of NetApps and leads its engineering teams in Research Triangle Park, located in North Carolina, as well as sites in San Jose, Calif.; Vancouver, British Columbia; Canada and India. His teams deliver private and public cloud storage solutions for global enterprise customers. He will talk about his 30-year career path as a mechanical and computer engineer, his view of the accelerating nature of technology, and how the top megatrends of today will influence the careers of future RIT graduates.

Prior to working with NetApps, Germain co-founded two startup companies and delivered enterprise solutions in servers, storage, cloud computing, mobile and desktop devices, networking and telecommunications. He has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from RIT, and a master’s degree in computer engineering from Syracuse University.

The speaker series is sponsored by RIT’s Office of Development and the Kate Gleason College of Engineering. For more information, contact Donna Benier at 585-475-4045 or dlbdar@rit.edu.
