Voice and online social networks executive leads alumni speaker series event

Mechanical engineering alumnus Robert Frasca shares insights about technology trends and entrepreneurship

Serial technology entrepreneur Robert Frasca will be the next featured speaker in the Kate Gleason College of Engineering Dean’s Alumni Speaker Series.

Frasca, chief marketing officer with Vivox, an online communication service organization, will discuss “Sex and Entrepreneurial Axioms: Lessons Learned from Building Eight Tech Companies” at 1 p.m. Feb. 9 in RIT’s Xerox Auditorium. It is free and open to students, faculty, staff and alumni of the university.

A 1988 graduate of mechanical engineering, Frasca is a pioneer in voice network and online social network convergence trends. He will discuss lessons learned through his 25-year career that includes service in the first Gulf War as a Navy fighter pilot and his role building several companies.

Frasca was a co-founder and chief executive officer of Galt Technologies, one of the first companies focused solely on e-commerce. Galt was sold to Intuit in 1995. Additional start-ups include Wise Wire, a technology company that develops software for Web-based community-building and search optimization. It was sold to Lycos in 1998, and Frasca served as its vice president and general manager. He has also held executive leadership roles in Internet Venture Works, Affinnova, Viximo, Kaneva, Khepera Group, and Drync, all a variety of voice, data and gaming technology corporations.

After earning his bachelor’s degree from RIT, Frasca received a Master of Business Administration degree from Carnegie Mellon University’s Tepper School of Business.

The Kate Gleason College of Engineering Dean’s Alumni Speaker Series is sponsored by the college and RIT’s Office of Development. Contact Donna Benier at dlbdar@rit.edu or 585-475-4045 for more information.
