The BEEBO -- Robotic Arm for Education
Control systems are a key concept for every Engineer to understand. These are the systems through which the output of devices (such as motors) is regulated to obtain any desired output. For example, control systems are how your thermostat can maintain the internal temperature at your house. The Beebo provides an example of control systems that Biomedical Engineering students can watch, manage, and edit to better understand how Control Systems can be set up and applied in a Biomedical setting. A robotic arm is one of many examples of rehabilitative assistive devices, with many uses, for example helping to feed someone with Parkinson's. This is achieved through several modular lab activities, an intuitive User Interface, and live simulations which help break down the fundamentals of different types of control parameters, and how they can be utilized to regulate the system's output.
