Design for Manufacturing of a Solar Crop Drying System
Haitian farming communities can greatly benefit from a fruit preservation system. A low cost, easily manufacturable solar crop drying system has been developed to remove moisture from the fruit. This turns the fresh fruit into a “leather”, with an extended shelf life that can be consumed as is or dissolved into a sugar drink popular in Haiti. This allows for the reduction of food waste and the potential for long term economic benefits in rural communities through year round fruit marketability.
