Formula SAE Electric Hub Motor Powertrain R&D

A hub motor dynamometer is a system used to measure the torque of an electric hub motor as a function of output shaft rotation. This system also acts as a method to test supporting systems such as the incorporated gearbox, accumulator, and cooling assemblies. This system will allow the Formula SAE team to confidently incorporate hub motors into their future vehicles. The goal at the end of this project will be to have a mounted and functioning rotating assembly attached to a functioning dynamometer. In order to run the motor for analysis, a cooling jacket, gearbox, and functioning data logging system must be designed. The goal of this project is to design a mounting fixture for the engine dynamometer, cooling jacket, and gearbox for the hub motor and to incorporate necessary sensors for data logging this system into the existing dynamometer. The advancements made on this project must also be adequately documented so future members can understand the progress and move forward with the project as necessary. The product must be able to incorporate into the existing engine dynamometer and adjacent control systems as well as adhere to our customer's requirements.
