Solar Radio Telescope

We want to show fellow students and visitors of the Imagine RIT festival what exactly a solar radio telescope does. This technology leverages the penetration of radio waves through the atmosphere and weather to keep tabs on the Sun and its solar activity. As the Sun goes through its day it has events such as solar flares, these events range in severity, if a large solar flare occurs the radiation emitted can cause disaster here on Earth. The matter sent out by the Sun is highly energized and could destroy our fragile digital world, this telescope can detect this a few days before it reaches Earth in an effort to allow us to prepare and protect. The RIT and general public must have an understanding of how and what is done to protect us from the Sun's harmful emissions.
