RIT Alumnus Drives Innovation with Breakthrough Micro-LED Display Startup
Matthew Hartensveld is the CTO and co-founder of the display startup Innovation Semiconductor, a company pursuing a novel platform for the next generation of display technology. Starting from fabricating transistors in high school, Hartensveld graduated from RIT in 2018 with his bachelor's degree in microelectronic engineering. He went on to receive a master's in materials science and engineering in 2018 and a Ph.D. in microsystems engineering in 2021. He currently has six granted or pending patents and is the author of 16 publications in peer reviewed journals.
Hartensveld sites his greatest accomplishment as starting a semiconductor company, Innovation Semiconductor, and developing a new platform for micro-LED displays. The initial building block of the company was developed during his senior year of his undergraduate degree. He went on to develop this further and now has a talented team of engineers making great developments in providing an innovative solution for micro-LED displays. He and his team look forward in anticipation as they work to exceed the requirements for the emerging augmented and virtual reality markets.
Hartensveld encourages current RIT students to "find your passion then locate and key in on the exceptional staff. RIT has some of the most amazing faculty, not just from a scholarly standpoint, but on a personal level where they want to see you succeed. You will find the staff are just as excited about their fields of research, and I am grateful for their contributions in my journey."
