Advancing Evidence Based Crime Policy in New York at the State Level
Mike Green is an Assistant Visiting Professor in the Department of Criminal Justice at RIT and serves as research faculty with the Center for Public Safety Initiates. Green served as chair of the New York State Commission on Forensic Science, co-chair of the Raise the Age Task Force, member of the New York State Sentencing Commission, and the New York State Justice Task Force. Major accomplishments Green led at DCJS include the creation and implementation of GIVE (Gun Involved Violence Elimination), growth and expansion of the SNUG street outreach network, expansion of the state’s network of Crime Analysis and Real-Time Crime Centers, and implementation of Raise the Age legislation, all of which promoted the use of evidence-based work. In 2019 Green received a Distinguished Achievement Award from the George Mason University Center for Evidence Based Crime Policy.
Prior to joining DCJS, Green served for 25 years in the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office, including eight years as the elected District Attorney. Mr. Green served at SUNY Albany and at RIT as an adjunct professor and as an advisor to the Youth Justice Institute at SUNY.
