Abstract:
Size exclusion chromatography (SEC) is the predominantly used technique to characterize natural and synthetic polymers with respect to their molar mass and molar mass distribution. Coupling conventional detectors like RI and UV to more advanced detectors like MALS and viscosity allows for investigation of additional parameters like branching and actual size in solution. In this talk, we will explain the basics of SEC and show examples to highlight the additional benefits of advanced detection.
Speaker Bio:
Derek Lohmann received his Ph.D. in polymer analysis from the University of Hamburg, Germany in 2009. His work focused on the characterization of water-soluble polymers and polyelectrolytes with an emphasis on structure-property relationships. He has 10+ years experience in technical sales and application consulting with an emphasis on polymer characterization.
