Amy Engelbrecht-Wiggans
Assistant Professor

Dr. Amy Engelbrecht-Wiggans is an assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at RIT. She received her B.S. from the University of Illinois in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics in 2011. In 2017 she completed her Ph.D. at Cornell University, also in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. Following post doctoral work at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, she joined RIT in fall of 2021. Her research focuses on quantifying the long term reliability of continuous fiber materials, with the ultimate goal of using laboratory measured fiber and matrix properties to predict large scale composite failure distributions and how they change over time.

Ph.D. Students

Atik Faisal

Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering

Atik Faisal is a Ph.D. student and graduate research assistant at the Fiber Composite Reliability Lab(FCRL). He worked as a freelance research assistant in the field of fiber reinforced composite materials after his undergrad. He graduated from Bangladesh University of Textiles(BUTEX) with a degree in Textile Engineering (specialization in yarn manufacturing ). Currently, in the FCRL laboratory, He is investigating the mechanical properties of aramid and polyamide fibers used in the large composites.

Dumbari David Kabari

Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering

Dumbari David Kabari is Ph.D. student at the department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering. He graduated from the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. As a Graduate Research Assistant at the Fiber Composite and Reliability Lab (FCRL), his research focuses on modelling the mechanical properties of continuous fiber materials with the aim of predicting the mechanical properties of large scale composites.
